Trekker Program

Destination Cape Breton Association’s ‘Trekker Program’ has enjoyed considerable success since its inception in 1997.

Essentially student ambassadors for Cape Breton Island, trekkers travel to local festivals and events in order to assist with the planning and implementation of activities. Through hard work, dedication and professionalism, they hav
e gained a positive reputation island-wide and are currently more in demand than ever.

The roles of a trekker can be described as extensive, but not exhaustive. They have acquired various job titles over the past ten years, such as: activity coordinator, cleaner, entertainer, facilitator, travel counselor, server etc. In going the extra mile at various festivals, events, and reunions, trekkers have helped create a positive image of Cape Breton Island and have enhanced the experience of events for tourists and locals alike. They have also alleviated, for event coordinators, the stress often associated with planning and running activities.
